Will VR-Related Films Give VR Industry A Great Push to Mainstream?

As several highly anticipated consumer VR headsets are expected to launch by the end of this year and beginning of Q1 2016, Hollywood directors are working to have virtual reality content ready when these consumer VR headsets are available to mass consumer market.

“The gauntlet has been thrown,” said Chris Edwards, chief executive of Virtual Reality Co. According to Wall Street Journal, the company had been working on numbers of immersive entertainment projects.

“The fear is that this is going to be so compelling, that you’ll want to be antisocial,” said VRC’s Mr. Edwards. To that end, Mr. Spielberg, who serves on VRC’s board of advisers, and is at work on a project with the company that Mr. Edwards described as for a “full family audience.”

Ready Player One’s Author Earnest Cline is also a fan of virtual reality, he told Fortune:

“I’ve played EVE Valkyrie and Star Citizen on Oculus Rift and VR gaming has taken flight simulators a quantum leap forward today,” Cline says. “The old 2D flight simulators never really cut it because you couldn’t look to your right and see your wing or look around the cockpit controls. It’s not a huge leap to connect VR piloting with quantum data teleportation, which was successfully achieved late last year as I was finishing Armada.”

Hollywood and film industry seem to be one of the most aggressive and optimistic in adopting and incorporating virtual reality as topic and inspiration for new film projects, and VR technology for content production.

Another film about virtual reality is “Ghost In The Shell” starring Scarlett Johansson is set for release in 2017. Here is the report about Ghost In The Shell Movie.
