Disney World Closing DisneyQuest Interactive Theme Park
Disney World in Florida first launched its infamous DisneyQuest “ Interactive Theme Park” back in 1998, a 5 stories arcade, gaming and entertainment center. It’s virtual reality area went down virtual reality history as one of the first virtual reality entertainment center in the world!
I still remembered how exciting it was when our entire family visited Disney World in my Middle School summer vacation in 1999 for a week and spent an afternoon there. It was my earliest virtual reality experience! Here is a video showing DisneyQuest, the virtual reality section starts from 4:48.
I was very surprised to learn that, after 15 years, the virtual reality equipment and VR headsets in DisneyQuest hasn’t been updated since…
Disney World is going to close down DisneyQuest in 2016 and use it for other non-VR-related entertainment. Let’s say it’s about time because it doesn’t live up to its slogan anymore – “Discover 5 floors of fun including virtual worlds, 3D encounters and classic video games!” We shall look forward to the bright future of the next generation of virtual reality theme park and gaming!
As everything there is considered outdated VR vintage collectible… But it was once one of the best virtual reality entertainment centers in the world! Farewell DisneyQuest, job well done and thanks for the fond memories! Ciao ~
