The Inaugural Australian Virtual Reality Film Festival to Launch August 11th
Australia’s first VR film festival dedicated to virtual reality technology, has partnered with Screen Queensland and Brisbane Powerhouse to host the inaugural showcase of the Virtual Reality film industry from August 11 -13.
AVRFF aims to introduce Brisbane’s public to the creative potential of this exciting new technology with a program of local, interstate and international films. The festival’s layout has been designed with the viewer in mind, with small booths allowing the public to enjoy the films in their own time. Each booth will provide background information on the films and house a HTC Vive headset for a truly immersive viewing experience.
The festival boasts a program featuring the best and latest of international Virtual Reality films, two of which, The Turning Forest and Easter Rising: Voice of a Rebel, are directed by Oscar Raby the Co-Founder and Creative Director at VRTOV, a Melbourne-based Virtual Reality studio.
Oscar will be presenting a keynote speech at the Brisbane Powerhouse as part of our opening night event on August 11th followed by a panel discussion from this year’s curatorial panel. AVRFF is a new platform for innovative filmmakers to present their works to the public in a space that promotes creative development and industry discussion.
Joining Oscar on the curatorial panel will be Lincoln Savage, AVRFF’s Director; Tyrone Estephan, Senior Producer of Alt.vfx; Artistic Director of Brisbane Powerhouse, Kris Stewart; and Director of Creative Development & Innovation for Cutting Edge, Benjamin Richards. Together, the panel of experts will discuss the creative implications of Virtual Reality for all things film and beyond.
