Oculus Announced Today Surreal Vision is Joining Oculus Team!
Oculus VR has always been regarded as a fully immersive virtual reality gaming and app focused company, which sets them apart from interacting with the physical world. However, things are about to change for them today, because “mix reality” apparently is on Oculus’s menu.
Oculus acquired 3D mapping company, Surreal Vision, so Oculus would have the ability to integrate physical objects with the virtual world.
Surreal Vision is a leading computer vision company that specializes in real-time 3D scene reconstruction, generating an accurate representation of the real world in the virtual world.
Surreal Vision aims to flawlessly capture and reconstruct, in real-time, the physical world inside the virtual world. The goal is that the user wouldn’t be able to distinguish between the physical world projections inside the virtual space!
This type of scene reconstruction technology will revolutionize a new way to experience virtual telepresence, enabling user to be truly “teleported” to a virtual space without actually being there.
The three co-founders of Surreal Vision have all received their PhD’s in computer vision at the Imperial College London.
