STXsurreal Launches First-of-its-Kind Premium Standalone VR Channel Exclusively on Daydream, Google’s VR Platform

STXsurreal, a division of STX Entertainment, today announced a new partnership with Google’s VR team to launch a standalone, pay-per-experience channel on their Daydream VR platform for high quality, mobile VR. Included in the exclusive deal, STXsurreal will develop and produce multiple live action scripted VR series which will be available on Daydream in the coming months.

“We came to STX Entertainment last year because we knew having access to the vast resources of the company and its deep relationships with top filmmakers and stars would accelerate our mission of creating the highest quality VR entertainment for audiences across the globe,” said STXsurreal Co-Presidents Andy Vick and Rick Rey. “With the Surreal channel, we will bring the highest caliber of talent to this new medium and create a premium destination for VR that is closer to an HBO or Showtime. Unlike other VR aggregators, Surreal will be highly selective with a true programming voice, and we will be actively involved in all productions. And Daydream, with its commitment to differentiated, high-quality content and a rapidly growing audience, is our ideal launch partner.”

“The Surreal channel, the first-of-its-kind, represents an enormous opportunity for STX talent to engage directly with their fans in this new form of VR storytelling,” said Rich Sullivan, COO of STXdigital. “The channel demonstrates exactly what STX Chairman Robert Simonds and President Sophie Watts built the company to do; be a multi-platform home that enables talent to tell stories leveraging all parts of our ecosystem, whether it be film, television, digital, or VR. Andy and Rick, who have been at the forefront of VR and immersive content, continue to create best in class experiences for this exciting new medium.”
