Virtual Reality Adult Video, Sex Game & Love Doll Guide: Multi-Billion Business In the Making

The sex industry is possibly one of the oldest business, for thousands of years, adult and sex-related entertainment industry and prostitution have existed and been practiced in all ancient and modern cultures, dating back to the Biblical era. The satisfaction of one's sexual desire is the very basic need, which is just as important, if not more, as to eat and sleep.

Technology has played a huge part to foster innovation with a goal fulfill human sexual desires through various means such as pornography and sex toys. Content mediums have evolved from early days of Playboy and Penthouse, to VHS, CD, DVD, and the arrival of digital content which ultimately disrupted the adult industry’s monetization model today. The content viewing behavior has also shifted from PC to mobile devices, as a growing number of people are watching porn through smartphones and tablets.

But then there’s the introduction of live-stream/live-camming, escort services, virtual reality porn, and artificial intelligence. One can only begin to imagine where technology will take us next? According to recent report from SimilarWeb, out of the three hundred most popular websites in the world, 11 of these are adult entertainment sites. Ranked number 23rd in the world are adult site, Pornhub, tagging alongside with giant web companies like eBay, Netflix, and Facebook. Out of the 1.1 billion number of visitors that visit Pornhub every month, 54% are mobile device users.

Here are some interesting statistics about global adult porn industry:

Number of people watching porn each second : 28,258
Number of people search for adult content each second : 372
Number of American people visiting porn sites : 40 million
Dollar spent on porn each second : $3,075.64
A new porn is produced every 39 minutes in the US
Approximately 200,000 Americans are addicted to porn
1/3 of porn viewers are female
35% of all web downloads are porn related
25% of search engine queries are porn related
34% of Internet users have encountered unwanted solicit to porn content in the form of ads, and email spams

While the Internet fostered adult porn industry, we are witnessing another sex tech revolution arriving to completely change the sex industry. More and more studios are getting into producing virtual reality porn content, and many startups have spotted the niche to developing sex robots, VR teledildonic / sex toys, live-streaming, and other adult industry related products and services. There is much research and development effort put in the field of visual, auditory, and haptic feedback sensory stimulation technology on its way to escalate and transform a new generation of sex lifestyle. The adult entertainment industry supply chain and demand is on a path to global revolution !

Sex tech revolution

Anna Lee, founder of Holofilms VR porn studio, is a firm believer that the adult industry would be the key driving factor to enable adoption of VR to the mass majority. Anna co-founded adult social network site, Utherverse, back in 2005, and launched HoloGirls VR porn studio about a year ago. Anna is confident that VR porn will also be the driving force creating new innovative technologies in virtual reality. Her sales numbers have also been growing 30% month-over-month since the launch of Holofilms. Another top VR porn studio, BadoinkVR, claims that their active subscribers have increased by 1,000% in the past year.

BaDoinkVR CEO Tod Glider states that,

“VR porn, at it’s best illustrate the potential and promote of VR better than any other medium, When comparing a traditional 2D porn to any well-made virtual reality porn experience, the difference is so undeniably that you will without a doubt believe that this new technology would transform the mass communication medium.”

Problems Shooting VR Porn Videos

The VR porn industry is growing rapidly, but the idea of streaming VR content is still at an infancy stage. VR porn files are enormously large, typically 3~5GB each file, approximately 10 times the average size of traditional 2D porn. At the moment, very few VR porn companies can provide lag-free VR streaming as a solution. Most VR producers require users to download the files onto the PC  and to be played by a VR player.

Shooting Badoink VR Porn

VR porn has a bright future outlook, but there are no true experts in VR right now, as everyone is still learning and experimenting with different technologies. Content capturing and display technologies will take some time to catch up to lag-free crystal clear resolution, and the ability to be able to walk around inside a virtual world. VR porn studios, mostly startups, are just beginning to explore storytelling in VR porn video, getting used to the new camera technologies, and explore storytelling as it is entirely different than how traditional 2D films are produced. Producers really have to think about what they are shooting in a different way.

Shooting behind scene VR porn

In traditional film production setup, a set can be created anywhere in the room, or simply against a flat backdrop, but in VR, the field of view is at least 180 degrees. Thing such as ceilings and other spaces will be suddenly exposed. What VR porn content studio found was that the content was most compelling when the action was going on right in front of the person wearing the headset. The actor used to have to do a lot of moving around, but now with VR porn, they really just have to sit there with as little movement as possible and not change the angle of the camera strapped to their head. The position of the actor in the viewer’s body is very awkward, and there’s a lot more blocking and positions to do compared to 2D porn.

Virtual Reality Sex Game

The porn industry has relied largely on technologies to generate money, but 2D digital porn in the recent year faced serious disruption as it is easy to obtain for free over the web. This is why VR porn production houses are happy that porn thieves do not yet have the software capability to copy, and probably will be even harder in the future to copy VR porn experiences.

At the moment, most of the VR porn movies are in Mp4 format, with extremely large file typically between 3~5GB depending device. It is not exactly the easiest and most abundantly available type of content copy and steal, although not impossible. In the future, VR porn experiences will be mixed with CGI, where customers will be able to interact with realistic avatars of their favorite sex partner, given that these could be Hayden Winter or your girl next door. These experiences will be even harder to replicate or pirate.

Two of the most interesting VR sex games in the virtual adult game industry right now are 3DxChat & Chathouse3D produced by thriXXX, the legendary maker of famous 3D sex simulation games such as 3D Sexvilla 2, Hentai 3D or 3D Gayvilla.

In Chathouse 3D, users are immersed via VR headset in the virtual environment, chatting and seducing other players for sexual encounters. The game is essential a massive-multiplayer online game for virtual sex, and has won the Venus Award  for Best Innovation Award. The company also recommend using sex toys such as the Vstroker for to escalate the experience a notch higher. Vstroker can be synced with the VR sex game, this means that players don’t just get the visual sensations, they actually get to feel the action while having virtual sex inside the game.

The company has plenty of experience developing sex simulation games, and would enable players to meet sex lovers within the social metaverse all around the world by unlocking their 3D Sex Room for a fee. Players will be able to have virtual sex with another person’s avatar in a realistic multiplayer based 3D environment, or even with multiple people at once. For the past 10 years, Red Light Center VR has offered an adult virtual world game to play, where users interact virtually via 3D avatars they’ve chosen to represent. The company has added an extra level of interactive complexity with the launch of Red Light Center VR World. This new service combines avatar interaction with live VR entertainment, featuring two main multiplayer experiences: a strip club and a movie theater. New virtual world regions are constantly undergoing development.

To access the Red Light Center’s community, the member is required create a free account, download a Curio browser, and visit the Red Light Center VR’s splash page. Although no VR goggle is required to play the game, users can get best experience with a VR headset such as Oculus or HTC Vive. Once inside the virtual environment, members can control action via the screen, or within VR headset by walking around or using a game controller. While enjoying motion captured stage and lap dances in the virtual strip club, members are able to communicate with each other as well as with the performers through the microphone. During special events, real-world performers from HoloGirls VR take the stage and perform lap dances live. In the massively multi-user theater, members can control the movie screen by pasting any video URL links. When the videos play, every person with an avatar in the region sees the action. Red Light Center membership is included in the HoloGirlsVR.com membership price of $20 a month, or consumers may purchase a  membership in RLCvr only for $15 a month.

There’s also 3DX Chat, which is currently only available on Windows. This is the game where you get to chat, date, and enjoy lifelike 3D sex. A place where your dirtiest secret desires come true, where you can be anyone and do anything you want. 3DX Chat also supports VStroker, which means the controller transmits movement of the Fleshlight male sex toy simulating the virtual girl’s activity in real-time. The Vstroker can be easily attached to your Fleshlight and turn the best-selling male masturbator into an advanced virtual sex system.

The conclusion here is that there will be a time in the future where instead of using built-in 3D avatars, users will be able to 3D scan their own body and create a realistic avatar of themselves. In the meantime, VR porn makers will just need to wait until VR headsets reach the mass majority, by either offering a viewer or wait for customers to adopt the technology. However, we can only begin to imagine how things will evolve in 3~5 year, things will be truly spectacular. There will be the arrival of a tipping point where everything changes.

Future of Camera and Technology for Shooting VR Porn

360-degree video is the primary format of VR porn video at the moment, where multiple cameras captures and then undergoes all footages being stitched together by software in the post-production process.

1

We can see that in the future, the current state of 360-degree video will eventually have depth and that volumetric 360 videos will be produced by different kinds of VR cameras. These cameras will allow the viewer to walk around the virtual scene, so real that it would be hard to distinguish from reality. One company, HypeVR, is the hunt to alter the 360-degree video landscape with the company’s depth-mapped volumetric system that allows user to navigate within the scene. Their system utilizes 14 Red 6K cameras to capture 360-degree FOV (field of view) and records at 60Hz, with plans to shoot 90Hz in the future. The camera also used a Velodyne LiDAR scanner, capable capturing up to 700K points of 3D depth info per second. The resulting data captured allows any pre-recorded scenes to be reassembled and replayed with the VR scene, in respond to the viewer’s movement real-time. This means the ability to move around the scene

However, this type of camera tech is still in development stage. At this time, all that is available for VR porn studio is a growing list of 360-degree cameras and a list of supporting technologies.

Sex Robot and Teledildonic Sex Toys

Another much-hyped topic is artificial intelligent robots in sex tech. Besides handling risky and dirty jobs for human, sex robots are envisioned to provide service to human to provide sexual pleasure. In the 2001 movie “AI”, depicts that sex robot is the ultimate substitute of human to provide sex services. In 2010, True Companion released the first ever sex robot, Roxxxy, with a price tag just below $10,000 USD each, but the hype quickly lost interest, but now Google Trend shows the trend is rising once again.

Recent report suggests that sexual interest with artificial intelligence is a rising trend, and this occurs due to loneliness and boredom, which is becoming a common symptom in the society. Chief executive at Robins Labs, Ilya Eckstein, noted that the company’s virtual assistant, Robin, is most frequently used by those who lack a proper sexual lifestyle, such as teens and truck driver could use it as much as 300 messages per day.

Another man who spotted the sex robot tech trend is a lawyer by the name of Brian Sloan, who gave up his practice in law to pursue a career producing robotic sex toy. His best-selling product, the AutoBlow 2, is a robotic blowjob machine. His crowdfunding campaign raised a total of 260,000 USD, far more than his initial goal of 45,000USD. Brian Sloan’s company sales were projected for $10 million USD in 2016, but actually turned over $13 million USD. At the moment, he’s sold over 90,000 Autoblow 2s worldwide.

“Masturbation is a normal part of life, and people are becoming more and more open to improving their masturbation by using a product. I’m benefiting from this trend.” – says Sloan

Made in Japan, the SOM handjob Machine gives a realistic hand job that simulates someone’s hand rapidly escalating a man to climax. It can be adjusted from 80~110 thrusts per minute, depending on what kind of hand job you want. The device is also fully adjustable to allow for different body size users. You simply set the base down between your legs, apply some gel and let the machine do it’s “handjob.”

VR Porn Video vs Live 360 VR Streaming – Teledildonic Sex Toys

While in the past we are used to meeting people via the Internet, and eventually physically meet in-person to spice things up. In the future, there won’t be a need to leave the comfort of your home, eliminating the risk of danger to meet some stranger to have a sexual experience with.

Kiiroo and Fleshlight

At the moment, sex toys like Kiiroo and Fleshlight already play a significant role in remote distance sex. Cam site like Camsoda is now distributing Kiiroo, a silicon made human vagina, out to their cam models, so the models can offer extra service to clients by providing a virtual blowjob as bonus service. Models can even pre-record their virtual blowjob and can be purchase on the BlowCast store.

The Kiirroo pearl is synced with app to create haptic feedback in real-time. As you stroke your hands up and down, the silicon sleeve would contract to simulate the feel of inside a real vagina. You can do this with a partner anywhere in the world. This is an exceptionally beneficial for people in long distance relationship, and a disruptive business model for the webcam industry.

kiiroo in action

Cam model Charley Hart says that customers always tell her that they could be there with her. She feels that teledildonic virtual reality sex toys provide an amazing opportunity for her to offer an extra service, so the customers can feel what it feels like to get a blowjob from her. This is the safest way to generate revenue without the need to meet a someone in-person and entirely stay within the boundary of “no touching”. Girls are able to reach their customers without the need to leave their home, and it can also be a great way to education people about how to perform better sex without pissing off your girlfriend.

VR girlfriend

Futurologist, Dr. Ian Peason believe sex robots in the future will be emotional, as artificial intelligence will enable robots to experience emotions. Human will have an emotional relationship with robots, there’s no doubt that some of these relationships will turn into a sexual one. We will have the option in the future to customize the appearance of the sexbot that match our preference, and Dr. Pearson believe that people will be willing to pay a sex robot similar to the price they would pay for a car, and predicts in the next 25 years, human will be having casual and intimate sex with intelligent robots, and that by 2050, we will all be having sex with robots. By that time, our technology will be super advanced that we can link brain, nerves, and connect via a computer that would create a sexual experience. There won’t be any physical touching, all will be done through virtual reality technologies that enable the simulation and activating the brain regions associated with sexual pleasure and feeling loved.

Sex robot

He noted that the current state of head-mounted-displays (HMDs) is merely the beginning of the virtual reality revolution, and in the next couple decades we will have contact lens like displays. The current HTC Vive and Oculus are only slightly smaller and lighter than the early days of virtual reality headset back in the 90s. Active contact lenses with micro-mirror can project high-resolution graphics right into the retina, and it will be super thin and light you probably won’t even feel that it is there.

Sex robot

He also expects other technologies such as active skin, and the capability to link these skin particles to the central nervous system. By all means what we try to achieve with sex toys is only the result of a brain stimulation through the nerves. What if we can simply turn those nerves on and off with signals which we can prerecord and playback in a virtual scene as prompted. We basically can produce and replay sensation tailored to our request. Sensations captured can be designed to implement with the nervous system in game engines, where we would experience the same sensation during a particular game scene. If someone touches you in the game, you will actually feel that sensation as if were real.

Augmented Reality Holographic Porn – Future of VR Porn

augmented reality porn

Most of the VR porn movies produced to date were shot in first person point of view of male actors. While shooting, the male porn star actually wears the camera on his head, and the female porn star interacts with the viewers, as if he is actually there in the same room with the female porn star.

1

VR porn studio Holofilms founder, Anna Lee, believes that how porn studios are shooting VR porn is merely the beginning stage of mix reality porn, and that augmented reality (AR) hologram porn will eventually be the next frontier for porn. She predicts that eventually we would evolve to a time where the porn star would be merged with actual reality, as if they exist as a holographic porn star that can be projected into the AR glasses. Badonink’s Tod Glider also agrees that mix reality porn is still at it's infancy, and eventually it would feel like there’s an actual pornstar right in your bedroom.

3D scan porn star for virtual reality

Leading VR porn studio, Naughty America, is also playing around with some AR porn. Ian Paul, CIO of Naughty America believes that augmented reality porn will most likely be available on smartphones first, where the performers and content will be projected into the surrounding environment. Eventually, the performer would be right there in your bed. However, VR has yet reached the early mass majority. You can’t even buy a PSVR right now without a good connection to someone from the industry. Hologram porn technology is still couple of years out, and by then we would have much more sophisticated software and hardware to produce a mix reality VR and AR porn.

Women Leading Panel Discussion In Sex Tech and Virtual Reality Pornography

In the recent year, men are becoming more isolated than ever before, hiding in their bedroom or bathrooms to masturbate to their favorite porn scene and pornstars. At the same time, women are more sexually liberated than ever before, a new paradigm shift in the history of mankind. The solution is not to eliminate the consumption of porn, rather it is the time to evolve it with the latest technologies. The question now is whether sex robots and virtual reality porn experiences can have the potential to deepen intimacy or worsen it.

having virtual reality intimacy

The key driving force of innovation origins from the root of all creation, that is, human are designed to make love and give birth. Sex is something that ranks just below food and water as a fundamental need. Very much like previous cases in the technology industry, where a disruption arise that completely changes the way we live, entrepreneurs have proven that sex sells and that there’s tons of money to be made in the industry. However, with 2D porn becoming increasingly available as free media on Pornhub and other free tube sites, it is likely that the industry would continue to suffer unless there are other ways to monetize the 30 billion dollar industry.

Real world vs porn

There’s been a growing interest in sex tech, as sex-related applications are becoming super popular. A panel recently took place at the New York-based startup co-working space, Knotel. The event hosted a panel discussion to discuss the future outlook of sex technologies, and how female are on the path to lead the industry to a new niche. The tech industry is very much male-centric, so the past discussions of sex tech trend tends to rely largely on the teledildonics, virtual sex toys, sex robots, and VR porn. Instead of focusing on the hardcore porn, all about relieving the orgasm purely for the counterbalance of isolating a person masturbating, the panel discussion instead encourages human-to-human interaction and interactive sex for intimacy.

porn vs real world

Research suggests the side-effects of porn proliferation is a never ending explosive male energy that eventually, through sensual habituation, lead to dealing with premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunctions.

In panel discussion at Knotel, founder of MakeLoveNotporn, Cindy Gallop, Found of Unbound, Polly Rodriguez, and co-found of Dame Products, Janet Lieberman believes that their new venture would play a huge role to impact the upcoming sex tech revolution. Cindy Gallop believes that female will lead the scene to develop a series of sex tech products and services that would promote and deepen human connection and intimacy. Cindy is putting together a ten million USD accelerator fund exclusively for female entrepreneurs pursuing their dream in sex tech industry.

Women is finally owning their sexuality since the beginning of recorded history. Cindy feels that the most innovation and disruptive sex techs will origin from women. Her site, MakeLoveNotPorn is the response to a male dominant adult industry, by promoting real physical sex through social sex videos. Her past experience dating men taught her that our society today rely largely on porn to educate young generation of what sex really is. She also found the problem is not really about viewing porn, rather it is the cultural burden to feel sinful or embarrassed to talk about sex, especially for women.

Polly Rodriguez hopes to smoothen some of that rough edge by offering sex tech products for women and relating these products to beauty or fashion brands. Her company currently provide a subscription service, where the subscriber receives a box of female sex products and also operates the site as online shop and blog. Rodriguez’s goal is to provide the product to would aid better sex experience for women. Her early life experience shaped her to be more sensitive of the shame that shapes around female sexuality. She found that women embarrassed of buying female sex product are a result of social construct.

Much of Unbounds products are focused on providing women with self-pleasure, which she found might be the first step to exploring intimacy. Complicated enough as a subject, the word “intimacy” still lack a clear definition. However, experts would describe intimacy as “true connection”, “dropping of masks”, and “being vulnerable.” To be vulnerable is about being completely honest with yourself or with your partner, and about how you truly feel. The difference here is described by a male user of MakeLoveNotPorn who noted that watching porn makes him want to jerk off, but watching MakeLoveNotPorn videos makes him want to have sex with real people.

Eva vibrator

Janet Lieberman founded Dame Products as counter-response to providing high quality and affordable sex toys for female. Their Indiegogo campaign for the company's flagship product, Eva, became the high-grossing adult product campaign on crowdfunding platforms. The company has shipped over 35,000 units since launch. The Eva is a sex toy uniquely designed for intimacy as the first ever hands-free, strap-free, non-intrusive couples’ vibrator.

VR Pornstar teach you how to please Your Partner Through Virtual Sexology

Much debate goes on about how technology is leading human to be further apart than ever before, and that virtual reality porn and teledildonic sex tech will cause further alienation of human interactions. However, some would disagree that sex tech not only helps with making money, but also increase intimacy and deepen human connections.

Virtual sexology

Badoink VR is teaming up to promote adult sex educational through VR porn videos with the aid of professional adult performers/sex therapists. Virtual Sexology, a 180-degree experience, was designed to aid men to overcome sexual dysfunctions. The experience is currently only available for men, production studio is working with Kiiroo to produce the same type of therapeutic videos for women. Each video contains topics that cover masturbation, sexual intercourse, sexual dysfunctions, and how to induce pleasure.

Virtual sexology

The scene features adult performer, August Ames, immediately greets you through a series of hands-on demonstration, breathing techniques, and other methods that would help induce a more pleasurable sex experience. She also goes over exercise that would train men to prevent premature ejaculation. The male performer in this case, were instructed to stay silent and just lay there, and let Ames to all the work. Because most Badoink members are predominantly male who do not appreciate hearing the male actor’s voice or seeing his body.

“Users will learn unique, proven methods to improve their abilities in the bedroom while instilling relaxation, control, and confidence,”

The concept was based on the work of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, as shown in the Showtime series, “Masters of Sex” which features real human sexuality professional who changes human sexuality by introducing the concept to enable female to achieve multiple orgasms through top selling book, “Human Sexual Response”. Virtual Sexology also added a synchronized Kiiroo Onyx sex toy that simulates Ames’ movement as she performs in VR.

Kiiroo

Badoink CEO, Todd Glider, found and hired Hernando Chaves to develop Sexology. Chaves is a human sexuality professor and family marriage therapist from the Insitute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. Chaves feels that the application of VR as sex therapy will be a very beneficial medium, especially since many people have never experienced sex therapy in the physical real world, and now they get to experience everything in the comfort of their own home. Many men experience anxiety when transitioning from solo masturbation to physically have sex with a partner. Virtual reality would open a new door as a very modern solution to solve an ancient problem, that is, how to have better sex with a partner.

“One thing people do is use porn to express themselves sexually, sex education can be valuable to improve the quality of relationships.” -Chaves

In the Virtual Sexology scene, Chaves implemented commonly used techniques from “Masters of Sex” to work on issues such as performance anxiety and early ejaculation. Breathing and mindfulness techniques were introduced to keep the subject relaxed and calm during sex, since a sudden rise in arousal may sometimes cause self-doubt or fear in certain people. These are also related to strengthening ejaculatory control, so a person can last longer during sex, and is able to separate orgasm from ejaculation. Chaves believe virtual reality will only prove that technology can ultimate improve the quality of sex lives for people, and debunk the myth that porn is harmful to a relationship.

For Badoink, this first episode of Virtual Sexology is merely the beginning in exploring sex ed. While the first scene gave tips to both men and women, it was shot from a male perspective. In future, once the public adapts to such teaching methodology, Badoink plans on releasing a series of courses on various sexual dysfunctions, ways to induce better sex, and female perspective scenes.

Kassia Wosick is another great mind who’s done remarkable work in the field of human sexuality, endorses the idea of using virtual reality to education people about sex. She compares the Badoink Virtual Sexology program to the work of Nina Hartley, a director and porn star in the industry. She came up with a similar program to help couples without virtual reality element. Although the program was educational, the videos had specific instructions for just about everything covering the topic of sex, including bondage and sex positions for pregnant women as well.

VR Porn : Sex Tech Treating Psychological Disorders

Research indicate that VR will transform many industries, including gaming, education, and healthcare. This includes healing people with psychological disorders, such as sexual paraphilia. According to Psychology Today, “Macrophiles refers to people who have fantasies to have sex with people that are much taller than they are”. This fetish is actually becoming increasingly popular for smaller men who are sexually attracted to tall female.

Macrophiles - VR treating psychological disorders

It would be very difficult to have a good time to fulfill one’s desire if the person doesn’t exist in the real or virtual world. In the past, people have relied on Japan animation (Hentai) or comic books. Recently, certain pornstars have realized this niche. Girl by the name of Katelyn Brook in the Macrophilia community, AKA Giantess Katelyn, has been featured in scenes and photos where she appears to tower over everything, and seen destroying cities or swallow small men.

With VR experiences, we could be looking at enabling the possibility for psychotherapists to use sex tech to treat and heal people with such disorder through 360-degree video or CGI content.

Developers have already made some of these VR experiences on YouTube, where the viewer can experience being a mini man and crushed by a giant blond girl. Viewer would see a huge woman towering over him. You can look around the environment, watch your giant girlfriend pick you up, like you are in the middle of the classic movie King Kong. YouTube user, diabuz, has published over 11 VR experience on YouTube for those who fantasize about a giant girlfriend. For an immersive experience, you can get a pair of Google Cardboard. In one of his work, “Terror in the City”, features a giant girl wearing a bikini who strolls around the city and earns points while she crushes civilians by hand, feet, or simply sitting on them.

Dr Mark Griffith from Psychology Today feels that the reason this type of paraphilia became popular was due to the Internet. But different macrophiles would most likely have a preference for people just a bit taller than themselves, whereas as some people might actually fantasize over enormous female giants who are insanely tall.
