Apple Receives Patents Relating To VR
Apple virtual reality department is falling behind its competition? Seems like they are way behind… Since Facebook’s 2 billion dollar acquisition of Oculus, over the past few months we have witnessed major consumer electronic player such as Google, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Zeiss, and as well as Microsoft’s Hololens augmented reality glasses, industry giants are flooding into the VR/AR market like a new generation gold rush is about to arrive.
Looking through job posting section shows that Apple has big plans for VR
“We are looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer with a proven track record in Virtual and Augmented reality. The successful candidate will develop software and tools that use VR and AR to push the state of the art to enable development of Apple’s next generation of products.”
The latest news is that Apple has been granted a patent for an VR head mounted display. Similar to the Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR, the apple VR patent enables user to insert an iPhone into the head-mounted device and run virtual applications.
The apple HMD is powered by a fold-able iPhone is equipped with eye-gaze tracking, in-the-air gesture detection systems, cameras, game controllers and keyboards. Looking forward to it!
