Black Box VR’s Revolutionary Virtual Reality Gym Opens Its Doors in San Francisco, California

Black Box VR, a pioneer in virtual reality fitness and BEST STARTUP OF CES award winner, has opened the world’s first virtual reality gym in San Francisco, California.

Located across the street from Uber and Twitter headquarters on Market Street, this boutique gym features the world’s first fully automated cable resistance machine that integrates virtual reality hardware and original eSport software.

Powered by the HTC Vive Pro, Black Box VR users get an intense, time-dilated, custom workout while immersed in competitive virtual reality fitness experiences that redefine eSports into physically active vSports.

“Over the past 3 years, our world-class team has put in an enormous amount of work to strategically combine science-backed fitness programs with the addictive qualities of gaming, immersive technologies, and innovative hardware that will transform the lives of our Hero Members for the better. We’re excited to open the doors to our award-winning creation and we couldn’t be happier to debut it in one of the most tech-forward places in the world. We believe this is just the beginning of the VR fitness market and it’s going to change the entire fitness industry on a fundamental level.” said Preston Lewis, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer.

Using their own proprietary Dynamic Resistance Machine technology and hands-free controllers, Black Box VR is able to track over 10,000 movement data points per workout to ensure appropriate form and track progress in order to readjust the experience. “The workout’s intensity is completely built around your ability,” Black Box VR boasts. “Machine learning modules intelligently take you from where you are now to where you want to be while having tons of fun.”

As the hero of this virtual sport, you’ll complete compound movement exercises — chest presses, overhead presses, rows, lat pulldowns, squats, and deadlifts — in order to employ your weapons; the more challenging the exercise and the more reps you complete, the more damage you’ll inflict. You’ll also burn fat with high-intensity interval cardio where you shadow-box virtual objects to build and deploy characters onto the battlefield. As you play, you also unlock exciting new arenas, earn trophies, and collect energy to fight off your opponent, all while the algorithm tracks your progress and adjusts your resistance levels and rep ranges. Black Box VR believes the tech will turn working-out from a chore into an addictive video game. Just three, 30-minute workouts per week will level up your life.

The monthly Hero Access Pass ($199 limited-time introductory rate) gives members access to all of the high-end facilities including bathrooms and showers featuring premium Molton Brown products, a warm-up and stretching room with exercise bikes and resistance bands, and 14 private 10’x10’ workout battle rooms that offer a completely private and fully immersive Black Box VR fitness experience. Other membership perks include free access to the fitness data-tracking companion mobile app, Hero Trainers on-staff that will help you through the experience, pre-workout and post-workout supplements, and more. Each private workout battle room includes CleanBox technology that uses medical grade UV-C light to eradicate 99%+ of all contaminants on the equipment.

“It’s simple,” says Ryan DeLuca, Co-Founder & CEO of Black Box VR. “Sticking to a workout and diet program will help you improve your overall health, fitness, and appearance. Unfortunately, long-term adherence to fitness programs is very low. At the same time, people can’t stop playing addictive video games and eSports.

At Black Box VR, we have combined the fun and addictive qualities of video games with the life-changing benefits of resistance and HIIT training. We are proud to be at the forefront of this brand new industry.”

For a limited time, Black Box VR is offering free demos for people in the local area. Interested people can schedule theirs at https://www.blackbox-vr.com/SF/

About Black Box VR

Founded in early 2016, health & fitness industry veterans Preston Lewis & Ryan DeLuca decided something in the industry needed to change. Even after successfully building Bodybuilding.com to $500M in revenue and creating some of the world’s most popular fitness apps and tools, they still saw the same glaring problem again and again: people hate working out and lack consistency. After experiencing the immersive power of VR, Preston and Ryan knew this technology, when paired with resistance training and addictive game principles, would be the paradigm shift the industry needed to finally keep people on track. With this, the vision for Black Box was born. Black Box applies the addictive qualities of gaming and immersive technologies to working out, which will revolutionize the fitness industry.
