MediaSpike Is Building VR’s Killer App
MediaSpike is trying to build the first killer app for the fast booming virtual reality industry. They are also building a set of tools for developers, including a native monetization platform, which they originally developed for mobile gaming, and with recent modifications to adapt to virtual reality content built with Unity game engine.
In December 2014, they announced support for Oculus Rift via their Unity SDK, taking a first step into the emerging medium of virtual reality. In February, MediaSpike announced support for the Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR via Unity SDK. Their native advertising platform is an especially strong fit for the mobile part of the VR ecosystem, as the freemium model is likely to be the dominant content model.
For the updated SDK, the MediaSpike has integrated an iPad demo app it uses to show off product placement in mobile apps for the Oculus Rift. In the demo, user is inside a truck, and can look around in any directions to see things such billboards covered in Despicable Me 2 posters.
A movie theater showing the movie, and a large outdoor movie theater playing and looping the movie trailer. Investors includes 186k Ventures, 500 Startups, Andreessen Horowitz, CMEA, Google Ventures, Inspovation Ventures, Raptor Ventures, Team Downey, and Venture51.
