Surgical Theater Introduces Precision VR: Explore at The Radiology Society of North America
Surgical Theater will be demonstrating its innovative 360˚ Virtual Reality platform at the Radiology Society of North America’s Annual (RSNA) Conference in Chicago, IL, from November 25-30. Surgical Theater will be debuting Precision VR® Explore – a new addition to the Precision VR® platform empowering radiologists with a tool that aides surgeons in planning complex operations.
Surgical theater is excited to introduce Precision VR® Explore. Through Surgical Theater’s partnership with NordicNeuroLab, Precision VR® Explore will offer radiologists and surgeons a comprehensive fly-through of a patient’s specific anatomy and pathology; allowing them to examine and explore imaging that is much more intuitive than traditional black and white Dicom and even 3-D images. 360˚ VR renders a ” surgeon’s-eye-view, and more”, which is literally viewing the pathology from any orientation and flying, for example, within the space between the white matter tracks and the pathology. This allows for an intuitive and immersive sense of the possible surgical approach and risks, margins etc.
“Surgical Theater is very proud to develop an offering that speaks directly to the work flow of radiologists.” says Moty Avisar, CEO and Co-Founder of Surgical Theater. “We see the 360˚ VR fly-through as a novel, complimentary option to traditional image analysis, which radiologist will utilize in communicating with surgeons and other physicians. Precision VR® Explore will provide significantly more value in communicating the information within medical images and in the ways radiologists are connecting to their surgeon counterparts.”
The 360˚ fly-through will be created from comprehensive combined modalities of CT, MRI and advanced post processed images such as NordicNeuroLab’s, nordicBrainEx Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and Blood Oxygeneration Level Dependent Imaging (BOLD). Attendees at the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) who want to learn more about Precision VR® Explore, are encouraged to visit the NordicNeuroLab booth (#4760), where Surgical Theater will be providing live demonstrations in virtual reality.
“Surgeons and Interventionalists at the Pickup Family Neuroscience Institute at Hoag Hospital have been utilizing Nordic Neurolab BrainEx DTI with Surgical Theater Virtual Reality for several years.” Said Michael Brant-Zawadzki, M.D, Senior Physician Executive at Hoag and Executive Medical Director of Ron and Sandi Simon Endowed Chair at the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute. “We have found that the combination engages the patients in understanding their procedure, gives them much greater confidence in their doctors, enhances procedural planning of the optimal approach, and adds efficiency as well as overall significant value to performing complex operations”
About Surgical Theater
Surgical Theater, the market leader in virtual and augmented reality healthcare services, is the first to combine cutting-edge fighter jet flight simulation technology with a patient’s own anatomy scans. Rendered from comprehensive combined modalities of CT, MRI as well as advanced post processing images such as DTI and BOLD, the 360° virtual reality fly-through is designed to allow surgeons to walk and fly-through a reconstruction of the patient’s own anatomy and pathology. Surgeons literally walk in the space between the white matter tracks and the tumor, being fully immersed, gaining unprecedented situational awareness and clarity of assessment. By simply turning their head, the surgeon can further explore the anatomy and plan the craniotomy, surgical path, trajectory, corridor, and the entire surgical strategy.
