When Tetris Effect was first released, it brings back some fond memories, I recalled stealing my mom’s coins and ran to the arcades to play the original and timeless 2D Tetris and the Street Fighters, those were two of my favorite classic arcade games to play!
The award-winning classic puzzle game Tetris Effect was first released on PlayStation 4 and PSVR in 2018. Developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and his team.
Tetris Effect is now available for PSVR, Oculus Quest headset. To us, the VR version is 10 times better than the 2D version, the immersive experience makes the gameplay much more surreal than ever!

Even with generic 8-bit graphic and backdrop music, Tetris was exciting back then, but that was 30 plus years ago, now it is powered by virtual reality, how does it get any better than that!
Tetris Effect has captured all the original Tetris’s essence without a compromise, and made it more addictive in virtual reality, seeing the blocks falling in 3D is such as thrill!

Tetris Effect Gameplay in Virtual Reality
The basic and fundamental rule of the game is almost the same as the classic Tetris. You start by building blocks and move through different tiers and levels. And as the difficulties increase, the music speeds up while you get to see different surreal scenes and colorful visuals
Building, arrange and re-arrange blocks and clearing rows as you drop the blocks while mutating to different shapes is even more addictive than 30 years ago, but this is not all that the VR-infused version has to offer.
The stunning sound effect and visual is definitely what makes the gaming experience amazing. Whether you are play the original 2D version, or now in 3D VR, the thing that makes you shit your pants and your heart skips a beat is when the time runs out and the music speeds up, that’s when you fuck it up! That’s the fun part of game, and in VR, that nerve-break moment is 10 times more realistic, and while you are having a 3D neon light show visual, it’s even more intense! It’s like playing Tetris in a rave party or a concert. The game studio even released a Soundtrack available for purchase, so the music and audio is really an integral part of the overall gaming experince!
Two of Tetris Effect’s cool features that we must mention is the amazing “Tetromino” and “Zone”. Tetromino allows you to rotate a block after it lands. And Zone allows you to pause the action. These two features adds more spice to the game and can save your ass during emergency situations in your journey!
Tetris Effect: Connected Multiplayer for Oculus Quest and PSVR in Summer 2021
According to Tetris Effect’s official homepage, the multi-player VR version of the game, the Tetris Effect: Connected for PlayStation VR, and Oculus Quest is scheduled to launch in summer 2021.
There is the co-op mode where three players are able to team up and connect with other players operating on different devices. There is also Zone Battle mode where you can match up with other players. And last but not least, the Score Attack mode where two players battles in each’s own journey and compete for the best score!

If you are a fan of the original 2D Tetris, you have got to try out the VR version. Tetris Effect is one of our favorite VR games so far, it brings back that nostalgic feelings of our arcade days…. Not only that, Tetris Effect is an amazing VR game all in its own right and glory. A game that’s well designed, re-innovated, and yet, still captured the legendary original series’s simple essence and spirit!
