High Fidelity Integrates w/ DigitalOcean for VR Server Solution

This week, High Fidelity launched a new integration between the company’s metaverse account services and DigitalOcean’s Droplet cloud servers.

The integration allows High Fidelity users to create and manage Droplets directly from their High Fidelity metaverse account. More importantly, High Fidelity users can now deploy and update instances of the company’s virtual reality server software directly to the cloud.

Unlike hosted virtual reality solutions, High Fidelity is a distributed platform that integrates together virtual reality environments hosted on different hardware across the Internet and the world. DigitalOcean’s simple process for spinning up servers in just a few seconds offers a new option for creating and scaling servers for a variety of different virtual reality applications.

“We are fully committed to a distributed, decentralized future for virtual reality,” said Philip Rosedale, CEO of High Fidelity, “Easily launching a server with a service like DigitalOcean is a key step in opening up VR to everyone.”

“High Fidelity is making it easy for anyone to create and access their own virtual worlds in the cloud,” said Greg Warden, VP, Engineering, DigitalOcean. “Users can create these worlds and spin them up on demand using Droplet cloud servers. The content they create can be stored and accessed at any time by saving it to DigitalOcean’s recently launched object storage product, Spaces. We are excited to see what High Fidelity creators build next!”

High Fidelity, Inc. is a San Francisco-based startup that distributes a scalable, open-source VR platform that enables everyone–performers, educators, makers, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts–to create and deploy interconnected social virtual reality environments from their desktop or the cloud.
