NYC Independent Film Festival Present Showcase in Partnership with REVIRE Immersive

The 2018 Virtual Reality Showcase will exhibit works curated by Mark Sternberg, co-founder of REVRIE Immersive Works, a cinematic virtual reality production company dedicated to telling compelling narratives. It will also present original works, including 360 Video, Cinematic VR pieces, and Interactive VR videos, by indie filmmakers who submitted to the VR Category. The showcase will be experienced on Samsung Gear VRs and HTC Vives.

Our Virtual Reality selections range from documentaries to live performance projects. This year’s showcase includes 6 selections: Home in Between provides an insight into the daily life of refugees and volunteers in Kara Tepe, a refugee-camp on the Greek island of Lesvos, and their coalesced efforts to make the community sustainable. Rone, a distinctive portrait of the titular street artist, follows him around the city to learn about the artistic process behind his epic murals as well as his unique philosophy on art and life.

The new-style Japanese music video Kiss Me is shot with the latest stereo 6K 3D VR camera “Insta 360 Pro” and 3D Sound combining stereophonic and binaural recording, giving the audience a hyper real audiovisual experience. The Great Ocean Debris outlines how the climate change and plastic pollution have a devastating influence on the ocean and what can be done about it.

In Reading Room, a bookkeeper takes the audience on a journey from the infinite library to the destructive world of book burning and censorship to ponder the power of thoughts and cultural identity. Depth of Circle is a live performance project that juxtaposes the scene of a woman discovering she is pregnant with the scene of an astronaut discovering a new planet. The film is installed in a format where the VR participant and the audience can simultaneously enjoy the piece.

The NYC Independent Film Festival provides a showcase for the best in independent cinema from all around the world, including short films, feature films, documentaries, music videos, and animated works. The Festival is always eager to embrace fresh ideas and new technologies in filmmaker storytelling. The 2018 Festival will screen over 250 films from 35 countries.
