The Holy City VR Now on VivePort and Steam
Through one of the most complex volumetric VR projects produced to date, you can now “travel” to Jerusalem from your own home and immerse yourself in Jerusalemʼs Old City through a transcendent stereoscopic 360 degrees Virtual Reality Documentary. Beyond what a traditional documentary could offer, VR and 360 filming has the power to affect the user in ways that mirror actual experience, making you feel as if you are actually there..
The Holy City VR was named one of Forbes Top 50 XR Experiences of 2019, has received a Lumiere Award for Best Educational XR, and Best Interactive VR Experience at the 2019 Byron Bay Film Festival. More recently, it’s been praised by The New York Times and won Best XR for Change at the 2020 Games for Change Awards.
The Holy City is an immersive VR experience transporting participants to Jerusalem, providing access to the most sacred rituals and the holiest sites of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. In a gamified and interactive documentary, the user travels through volumetric captures of the city, unlocking clues and completing challenges, illuminating common values between the three Abrahamic religions.
Each section concludes with a video of the holiest day, making these rare moments accessible. An inter-faith team of filmmakers brings this unique perspective to share the magic and wonder of Jerusalem, cultivating understanding by exploring our shared values and fundamental similarities.
The Holy City was co-produced by Nimrod Shanit and Sean Evans and co-directed by Nimrod Shanit and Timur Musabay. The team worked collaboratively, with each team member bringing their unique religious perspectives to the project. Working together between Canada and Israel, with a group of Christian and Muslim creators in Toronto, and a team of Jewish creators in Jerusalem came together to craft this world-first interfaith experience.
