MindArk and Epic Game Signs Deal with Unreal Engine
MindArk is a Swedish independent game development company based in Sweden. It is dedicated to creating the metaverse of tomorrow by combining online games, virtual worlds and social platforms. The company currently employs approximately 60 people.
MindArk is best known for developing and continuously updating the award-winning massively-multiplayer online game Entropia Universe. MindArk has nearly two decades' experience managing virtual worlds and continues to develop its technology and expand into virtual reality.
Back in 2018, the company announced the launch of its token sale which can be accessed here. The company set a goal of raising $100m USD in order to finance the creation of the first Intellectual Property Exchange (IPX) and development of Entropia Universe.
Entropia Universe has over 4 million registered accounts, making it one of the most popular open-world games. It was launched in 2003. Participants create their own avatars and participate in many virtual activities. Entropia Universe is among the few online worlds that offer a trading platform with currency that can be converted into real-world money.
MindArk also has partnerships with several companies around the globe who create custom content for Entropia Universe in the form distinct planets with different themes. These planets are then marketed to specific audiences in North America, Oceania and Asia. Each partner planet offers a unique experience, which is available to Entropia Universe participants through space travel.
MindArk and Epic Games reached a deal in June 2021 to use Unreal Engine 5 (tm) for Entropia Universe's development. Entropia Universe's unique real cash economy and Unreal Engine 5's graphics-and-development tools will help to position Entropia Universe as the metaverse for the future.
Entropia Universe's real cash economy was worth over $450,000,000 in 2020. Going over to Unreal Engine will be the third major update to the graphics engine in Entropia Universe's remarkable 20-year history.
MindArk and Unreal Engine 5 have partnered to improve the graphics quality of Entropia Universe. They also offer high-quality content updates to participants faster and the possibility to create Entropia Universe clients on a wider range of platforms.
