MindMaze Continues Expansion into Media and Entertainment
“Leonardo DiCaprio joins as advisor, investor”
MindMaze, the company building next-generation mind-machine interactions through neuro-virtual and augmented reality technology, today announced that Academy-Award® winner and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has joined its advisory board and as an investor. On the heels of the launch of the company’s first social VR product – MASK – earlier this year, this news marks the latest milestone for MindMaze as it expands its innovative technology into entertainment and social VR.
MindMaze’s MASK product, which launched in April 2017, leverages machine learning and biosignal processing to decode real-life facial expressions in tens of milliseconds to instantly replicate that expression on a virtual reality avatar. The product attaches to any existing console and can understand a users’ physical real-time expressions – from smiles to scowls to frowns – and apply them to an avatar on any game or app.
“We are already seeing immense potential for the application of our technology outside of healthcare, specifically in entertainment, sports and social VR,” said Dr. Tej Tadi, CEO and founder of MindMaze. “As we continue to gain traction in these industries, the addition of Leo to our advisory board is a vote of confidence in our technology and road map for ushering in a new age of interaction between humans and machines.”
The company established its uniquely differentiated approach to building products when it received FDA clearance in Q2 2017 to begin marketing MindMotion™ PRO in the United States. Additionally, MindMaze announced a strategic investment towards the acquisition of GaitUp and its objective motion analysis solutions for sports and wellness.
“MindMaze technology has already impacted the lives of many people, and it is poised to define the way we will experience and create content in the future,” said DiCaprio. “I am excited about the possibilities of MindMaze’s technology, especially for its potential to be a driving force in media and entertainment in the years to come.”
Recent innovation in VR has made the technology an important component in creating empathy and driving action to support social causes. MindMaze technology has the potential to support advocacy work, including efforts aimed at tackling climate change.
MindMaze is pioneering a breakthrough computing platform that captures brain activity upon intent, creating a new operating system for computers – a MindOS. Based on a decade of rigorous testing in the healthcare industry, the company has designed an intuitive mind/machine interface, which utilizes instantaneous decoding of brain and muscle signals. Its innovations are poised to transform industries, starting with healthcare and gaming. MindMotion PRO, its first product, is a portable device to speed early rehab from brain injuries. MASK, a sensor for virtual reality systems that detects and reflects emotions in real time, will humanize social VR. Founded by Tej Tadi in 2012, the company is based in Lausanne, Switzerland with U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, CA.
