Pixvana and Valve Partner to Seamlessly Deliver VR Video Streaming to Steam

Pixvana today announced that its SPIN Studio platform is integrated into the Steam 360 Video Player, launched in beta today. The integration of SPIN offers content creators a direct pipeline for publishing VR content via the Steam Store, and helps enable a “one-click” solution for watching that content inside of Steam VR.

Reinventing video workflows for VR in the cloud, Pixvana SPIN Studio processes up to 12K resolution 360/VR video while simplifying content management, publishing, and playback. Steam partners can now publish 360 media directly to the Steam Store using SPIN Studio’s publishing features, including a content management and encoding tool to let users prepare, review, and encode high resolution mono or stereo content ready for playback on Steam with just a few clicks. SPIN Studio includes the first of its kind direct export connection for VR content to push content directly to the Steam store. Sign up for a trial account at https://pixvana.com/spin/

Valve’s Steam 360 Video Player is built with Pixvana’s SPIN Play SDK to enable playback and streaming of VR/360 content in multiple formats. The player uses Pixvana’s free and open standard, the Open Projection Format (OPF), to play multiple types of encoded content including standard spherical (equirectangular), or Pixvana’s own tile format. The SPIN Play SDK supports playback and streaming using the MPEG DASH standard. Pixvana’s own Field of View Adaptive Streaming (FOVAS) technology delivers tiled encoding from up to 12K VR masters at HD bit rates.

“Pixvana’s SPIN SDK has been a great asset in our efforts to empower VR content creators and provide an integrated solution for experiencing linear VR content on Steam,” said Valve’s Sean Jenkin.

“We’re working hard to help all content creators and consumers create immersive experiences that look sharp and feel life-like. We are excited to partner with Valve to bring these solutions to a vast audience so that people everywhere can experience VR’s true potential,” said Pixvana Co-Founder and CEO Forest Key.
