Virtual reality streaming requires far more than traditional video streaming, and that’s why Terpon is building a full ecosystem with best-of-breed technologies, according to Tim Scoffham, Terpon’s chief commercial officer.

“Terpon is proud to be partnering with V-Nova, to bring their cutting-edge video compression to a market where the benefits will be significant,” Scoffham said. “Perseus software is able to reduce bandwidth costs by as much as 70 percent without impacting quality and is supported on all major platforms, including natively on Android, iOS and Windows and on all major browsers without the need of any plug-ins.

“The improved compression efficiency enables sites to reach more viewers and provide a robust service in countries where only low bandwidths are available and provide higher-quality delivery everywhere else.”

V-Nova is already a well-established and deployed brand in the Pay TV and OTT spaces but their entry into the modern webcam market is new, according to Fabio Murra, V-Nova’s senior vice president of product and marketing.

“We are excited to be working closely with Terpon to enhance the live streaming video compression systems in place for their webcam platform clients,” Murra said. “The Terpon solutions are leading innovation and performance in the market and I look forward to expanding the technological reach of many more camera and content platforms in the very near future.”

V-Nova’s Perseus software is the only cross-media codec format and delivers on the promises of next-generation image and video compression.

The Perseus technology works in 2 ways: Perseus Pro is an Intra codec for mathematically lossless and visually lossless professional production, contribution and imaging workflows. Perseus Plus is a temporal codec designed to enhance a base codec such as H.264, HEVC or AV1 adding additional layers of detail for unbeatable distribution efficiency to consumers.
