The Olympics Will Be Available In VR Form

If VR programs have been short till now you will have a long viewing coming up on Gear VR as the Olympic Games would now be available on VR. NBC Olympics would be providing VR coverage of the Rio Olympic Games and would be available for users who are using compatible Samsung phones like Galaxy S6 and S7 series along with Samsung Gear VR through NBC Sports app. This will be 85 hours of live broadcasts covering the opening and closing ceremonies as well as different categories of sports performances.

“VR technology carries incredible potential for the sport broadcast industry, offering a truly immersive user experience. Our first test in Lillehammer, together with Samsung, for the Winter Youth Olympic Games was highly successful and we look forward to further exploring this exciting technology with NBC in Rio,” said Yiannis Exarchos, OBS CEO. “VR has the power to enable hundreds of millions of people around the world to have a real sense of presence and participation in the most universal celebration of humanity, which is the Olympic Games.” ( via NBC Olympic News )

There would be a slight delay in VR broadcasts and they would start off a day after, from August 6th. Samsung Galaxy series, which are compatible with Gear VR, would be able to access the VR content while the NBC Sport app will allow one to view the same through VR headsets.

OBS would be filming the games in Super Hi vision as well as in VR. Samsung started the process by filming many potential candidates as documentaries of their journey to Rio on VR. Hence, Samsung would be working with NBC as well as OBS on this platform for recording the Olympic Games.
