Michael Conelly Partners with ‘Game of Thrones’ Sound Designer for VR Experience

Michael Conelly is a VFX creator turned VR Director. He is a prolific visual effects designer with over 20 years of experience, having worked as a digital effects supervisor on large entertainment projects such as Snow White and the Huntsman, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, The Kingdom, Fast & Furious, Charlotte’s Web, and Hop–to name a few.

He is the president and creative director of Blackthorn Media, an Academy and Emmy award-winning team of content creators that are bringing their professional skills to interactive narrative in room-scale VR. Michael’s first two writing and directing efforts in VR, The Abbot’s Book and Dragonflight, were featured at Sundance and Tribeca.

His latest project is Caliban Below, an immersive experience which he created, directed, and produced. Through Caliban Below, Michael brings his industry-leading expertise in CG technology to the world of VR.

Michael is currently developing an expanded version of Caliban Below (set to release in Fall of 2018) and this new version of the immersive story includes a re-release of the original novella, story extensions, as well as enhanced sound design by Game of Thrones sound designer Paula Fairfield.

Paula is an accomplished sound designer who’s worked on many notable projects in both television and film including mother!, Snow White and the Huntsman, and the upcoming film Alita: Battle Angel and Amazon Studios series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. She is pioneering sound design in the immersive space with this upcoming revamp of the Caliban Below VR experience.
