Virtual Reality Porn Sales Data Reveals Gear VR as the Most Popular Headset

The sex industry is always the first to experiment and integrate new technologies. The Internet and relevant peripheral consumer technologies were fostered by the porn industry. This is certainly true for the rise of virtual reality industry as well. This year at CES was the first time an adult content manufacturer, Naughty America VR, was permitted to showcase their products and services since 1998.

The Samsung VR headset, Gear VR, is getting a lot of traction than most of the other headset competitions. According to VR porn studio Badoink VR, the company has been producing virtual reality porn content that is distributed and optimized for various VR headsets said that they have seen 40 percent of the download derive from Gear VR this year.

Badoink sales data provide valuable VR industry insights

This figure doubles the usages of the second place headset, which happens to be Google Cardboard or similar cardboard-like headsets, at 23 percent. While Oculus and Vive altogether account for a quarter of all their video downloads since the beginning of 2017, and Playstation PSVR porn viewer account only at 9 percent. Google Daydream headset account for just 3 percent of all downloads.

Why is this important? While most VR headset producers have kept a secret on sales and user data, researchers are trying to get a sense of how popular is each and ever platform. Samsung noted that in January they have shipped 5 million headsets, and Sony PSVR revealed that in February their customers had purchase close to one million PSVR headset. HTC and Oculus have yet released their sales figures for their VR headsets.

Sales data seems to lead experts to assume that free Gear VR headsets would simply be left to collect dust, and sales data from Sony and Samsung do not reveal too much about actual usage. What we have found with Badoink VR porn user data is that these hypotheses are simply not true. The studio offers their subscribers different file format for every possible VR headset, and these downloads suggest a pretty good lead as what users are using to watch their content.

Given that using data from a single VR porn studio isn’t the best way to analyze the state of the entire virtual reality industry, but the harsh comparison between these downloads should be carefully evaluated for companies like Google, and anyone developing on the Daydream platform. Google still has some catching up work to do to match what Samsung and other platforms have achieved in the past year.
