VRrOOm Debuts XR Event Platform at Venice Festival

“The launch lineup includes 9 VR films competing in world premiere at Venice Biennale 2018”

VRrOOM Limited, a media platform dedicated to VR and AR news curation and content distribution, today announced the launch of the VRrOOm XR app , an extended VR platform that will make the world’s finest festivals and cultural events accessible to global audiences. Featuring top quality content, the new platform aims to help festivals overcome the time and space constraints they confront as they grow and to grant global audiences’ access to the most prestigious event premieres.

In partnership with the Venice International Film Festival, the VRrOOm XR app’s debut program will showcase VR films from the festival’s Virtual Reality competition lineup. The limited run will be available at no cost to all for a period of one month, from September 9 to October 8, 2018.

One of the most pressing issues that artistic VR is confronted with today is the challenge of discoverability and optimizing availability for the largest possible number of art lovers and potential spectators. To address this, VRrOOm and Venice Biennale are excited to bring quality VR to global audiences through this new initiative.

“To continue paving the way in elevating Virtual Reality to the status of a legitimate art form, we need to constantly think forward on what will be relevant to our mission as pathfinders that a whole industry is looking up to set the new standard of excellence,” said Andrea Del Mercado, general manager of Venice International Film Festival. “Making the VR films exhibited at Venice International Film Festival’s VR section available online to a much wider international audience expands the impact of La Biennale di Venezia’s commitment to VR and its investment far beyond the exhibition.”

Virtualization of events is inevitable: exhibitions, conferences, seminars, fashion shows, concerts will all find their digital twins in virtual reality. “Cost and logistic constraints associated with physical events creates barriers to their development and growth,” continued Cacciuttolo, CEO of VRrOOm. “An increasing number of events and exhibitions will opt to showcase their programs within customized virtual platforms, which will allow them to offer the best experience to their customers and audiences.”

The VRrOOm XR app aims to be the primary stage for ongoing premiere events and will provide the public with an uninterrupted stream of fresh content after the Venice virtual extension ends in October. “We want to create a virtual space that’s constantly evolving, where our public and VR artists can interact in an intensely creative environment,” said Louis Cacciuttolo, founder and CEO of VRrOOm. “Core to our company vision, VRrOOm’s XR platform will be filled with a perpetual flow of energy that will keep the creators and the public excited, enlightened, and entertained.

The launch line-up will include 9 VR films competing at Venice Biennale in World Premiere, presented in exclusivity to the audience worldwide. The following programs will be announced later this month, showcasing works presented at various festivals from all around the world.

VRrOOm collaborated with Paris-based agency Bemersive to develop the XR platform. The exclusive partnership between VRrOOm and Bemersive will extend to additional formats in the future in order to reach larger audiences and support new features. The app will be free for the first few months during the launch period.

VRrOOm’s VR festivals app features a virtual auditorium specially designed by THX Ltd. The THX Ultimate Cinema virtual auditorium is a celebration of the art of filmmaking, allowing audience members to experience the magic of storytelling in the world’s most personal cinema.

At launch on September 8, VRrOOm’s virtual festivals platform will be available on iOS, Android, and Google Daydream systems for VR-enabled mobile phones, allowing audiences to watch content either in magic window or in VR mode with a VR headset; the app will also be compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go and Gear VR, downloadable on Viveport and Oculus stores. The new platform will be free to access during the first few months following launch.
